Glasgow Sights, Sounds and Hotels
The Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum is housed in superbly ornamented red-sandstone Victorian cathedral and castle amalgamation, which was opened in 1902. An agreement has not been reached as to which side of the building is the front and which is the back, but one end of the striking central hall is dominated by organ pipes, and recitals are an essential element of the museum program. The natural history of Scotland section exudes a distinctive museum ambience and there are some fascinating relics including silver, ceramics, European armour, and also Egyptian archaeological finds. The outstanding gallery of some of Europe’s finest art is upstairs, and incorporates British and Continental paintings, 17th-century Dutch art, a range from the French Barbizon school, French Impressionism and Scottish art from the 17th century to present times. Paintings include Rembrandt's magnificent Man in Armour, and also works by Botticelli, Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso.
Glasgow is steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty, and there are many unique and fascinating attractions such as the Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum. The superlative Glasgow hotels will show you true Scotish hospitality.
