Edinburgh Sights, Sounds and Hotels
Canongate is a portion of the Royal Mile adjacent to Holyrood Palace, and is so named because the Cannons of Hoolyrood would pass here on route to the Castle. Owing to Canongate’s generously proportioned gardens and fruit orchards, and also being close to the Scottish court at Holyrood, this area was a highly sought-after place to live. Some of the homes of the nobility who resided here and other interesting buildings, all with their own yarns, punctuate the vicinity: Morocco Land, No. 215 - Shoemakers' Land, Chessel's Court, the Excise Office, the Old Playhouse Close, Moray House, Bible Land and Huntly House are some of the names, it's up to you to uncover the stories.
Whilst uncovering the astonishing tales behind some the old Edinburgh buildings, sample the wares from some of the outstanding Edinburgh restaurants. The noteworthy Edinburgh hotels will prove to be the most gratifying alternative.
